Hello!
Boy Golden here. At some point over the past few years, you have signed up for my mailing list, which I have never used.
Today, that changes!
I released Church of Better Daze almost three years ago now. Writing and recording that record was a revelation for me. Releasing it and touring heavily has been an incredible experience. It has been a learning experience, an experiment in friendship, and in music.
Last year, I released For Jimmy. That record was made with my best friends in the Church of Better Daze band. I love it a lot.
This year, I am releasing another record. It’s called For Eden.
I was making For Jimmy and For Eden at the same time, and I finished them both at roughly the same time, so I have been holding onto this new record for over two years now.
For Eden is an important album to me. Making it was a giant leap forward in my creative process. I learned and invented ways of recording that were new to me while making For Eden, and I am still using and refining these techniques today.

I am starting this SubStack to share more about this new album, to share more about my creative process, and to encourage you, members of the Church of Better Daze, to pursue creative projects in your own life.
This newsletter will serve a few purposes:
To share more of the process I use to write and record
To share more of the stories behind the songs
To share more of the songs I write
To share things that I have found useful on my creative journey - techniques, quotes, books, habits, routines
To connect on a deeper level with the people that love my music
To provide a platform where people can support the music and art I am making, if they so desire
I intend to write you once a week. If this is not to your taste, feel free to unsubscribe, no hard feelings.
Why a SubStack?
To be an career artist in the 21st century is to be deeply enmeshed in the internet. I struggle with this, and always have.
When I was putting out Church of Better Daze, I was trying my best to make ‘content’ and be happy on the internet, because that was what the album needed.
The truth is, it was not a happy time in my life. I had just ended a relationship that I loved, was struggling with sexuality, struggling with my self-confidence - it sucked.
Instead of trying to figure out how to exist on the internet in a way that worked for me, I have found myself checking out and ignoring it. I don’t want to be checked out.
I want to connect with people, I want to share my art, I want to have meaningful conversation.
This SubStack will be a place where I can share long form thoughts, demos, stories, and ideas. It is also a place where you can support the Boy Golden project financially, if you choose.
That said, most of the content here will be free for all subscribers. There will be a couple things every month that are for paid subscribers only, including early access to music, shows, merch, and other things I haven’t thought of yet. Suggestions are welcome!
By the way - if you live in Ontario, Quebec, the East Coast of Canada, or the East Coast of America, I would love to see you at a show in May.
If you would like to support the SubStack financially, you can do so here.
That is all for now, thank you for your time.
If you have something in particular you would like to read about, please let me know! Feel free to email me back here anytime.
Creatively yours,
Boy Golden
Welcome to Substack! Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Happy to hear you'll be using the mailing list! My partner and I have been to both your shows in Toronto and play your records often at home. Can't wait for more!
